I recently put this design scheme together for a friend. We decided that a ‘Hamptons Coastal Chic’ Style would perfectly suit their Summer home. The aim is an elegant, sophisticated look while creating a bright, beachy and relaxed atmosphere. Here is a step by step guide to re-create the look!
1. Compile Inspirational Pictures in Line with Your Style

2. Select Design Elements and Create a Mood Board

3. Select Furniture, Furnishing & Accessories
Combine touches of ocean-inspired colours, metal accents, rattan or cane furniture, textured linens, natural wood, with white or white washed finishes for that bright, Hamptons look. Style your shelves with seagrass baskets, bamboo lanterns and some bleached coral for that extra beachy look!
4. Choose your Feature Lighting
Classic light fittings in metal and glass -particularly lantern-style – lend themselves very well to the Hamptons style. Shades made from natural materials like wood, rattan or bamboo work equally as well and add an element of warmth and texture.
Combine table lamps, floor lamps, wall lights and hanging feature pendant lights for a tasteful ambiance. If you have high ceilings, consider hanging several light fittings together at varying heights (odd numbers usually work best!).
5. Select your Seating
Go for classic shapes, comfortable cushioning, natural wood frames, and traditional wooden ‘foot’ styles (rather than sofas supported on modern metal frames). Neutral, blue-toned or striped upholstery work particularly well with this look. Layer with textured cushions and throw blankets.

6. Draw up a Scaled Plan (even by hand!)
This step is crucial to ensure that your selected items work proportionally in the room while allowing comfortable circulation space. Adding a little colour to the plan helps to visualise how the pieces will work together!

Enjoy recreating this Hamptons Coastal Chic style in your space!
